Performance

When it comes to performance, the 2013 Lexus GX SUV will excite most buyers. Its 4.6-liter V8 is good for 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque to accelerate zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. It can even tow as much as 6,500 pounds with ease, when properly equipped. A six-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox available and full-time four-wheel drive is standard. This means that power is always directed equally to all four wheels to help increase traction whether on the smooth road or the bumpy trail. GX features a body-on-frame design to reduce vibration and noise that often disturbs the passenger cabin. Also, an electronically modulated rear air suspension offers an auto-leveling function to ensure that rear height of the vehicle remains consistent whether empty or filled with cargo or passengers. This SUV also has an ECO indicator graph and light that tells the driver they are handling the vehicle in the most fuel efficient manner. This will come in handy considering how thirsty GX is, returning 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

Technology

• Navigation - The available hard disk drive system can recognize more than 100 voice commands. Its colorful display offers maps and directions to more than 8 million points of interest.
• Audio - The base stereo is actually pretty decent with nine speakers, but the available Mark Levinson® system is a must for any music lover. It features a CD/DVD auto changer and 17 speakers.
• Rear Entertainment - The dual-screen rear entertainment system comes with individual screens on the back of the front seat headrests.
• Lexus Enform® - The Lexus Enform® with Safety Connect gives you emergency assistance 24/7, with the push of a button.

Safety

The 2013 GX has yet to be crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but when braking was put to the test, it was able to stop in a respectable 127 feet. Lexus is well-known for producing safe vehicles, and with 10 airbags present in the GX, this is clearly a theme carried on this model. Safety features include:
• Safety connect
• Adaptive front lighting
• Pre-collision system
• Active track control
• Rain-sensing wipers
• Smart stop technology
• Lane departure alert
• Electronic brakeforce distribution
• Engine immobilizer
• Child seat anchors
• Dusk sensing headlamps
• Turn signal mirrors

Appearance

The GX is definitely a fine-looking vehicle. Despite its large size, it manages to look aerodynamic with graceful lines chiseled throughout. The headlights look like diamond earrings that complement the sharp 18-inch six-spoke wheels. Premium models enjoy these wheels in a high-gloss finish, and the exterior is available in seven gorgeous colors.

Comfort

When you slip behind the wheel, you are welcomed by thick carpeting, soft leather and polished wood; you can’t help but feel like you’re right at home. Although the front row seats are incredibly comfortable, the second and third rows are rather flat and hard, which is certainly disappointing. At least they fold by power, so it is easy to open up the cargo space. As for design, it is as upscale as you would expect to find in a Lexus. However, although the gauges are easy to read, the dash is a little on the busy side with so many controls.

Cargo

Few people will have any complaints regarding cargo capacity. Over all, there is 91.9 cubic feet behind the front seats. On the downside though, if you have all seats occupied there are only 11.6 cubes to work with.
