The XC60 made its first public appearance in 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show as Volvo 's first foray into the compact Crossover SUV market. Produced at Volvo's Belgium plant, the XC 60 was introduced into the North American market in 2009, and was to go on to became Volvo s best seller for that year.

A comfortable five seater four door, the Volvo XC60 has earned itself a rightful share of the glowing hot compact luxury crossover niche, where its combination of sleek lines, functionability and traditional Volvo solid and safe image has attracted only favorable reviews.

The Volvo XC60 premium crossover SUV comes with a choice of two engines, either a 3.2 liter transversely mounted inline six cylinder generating 240 horsepower and 236 pound per feet of torque , or their inordinately more powerful T6 version that comes with a 3.0 liter turbo-charged transversely mounted inline six cylinder engine providing a massive 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Either option comes with a six speed automatic transmission including manual shift control. The 3.2 series comes with standard front wheel drive, with those preferring all wheel drive can take up the option while the T6 comes with all wheel drive as standard.

As anyone who has ever driven or been driven in a Volvo, the XC60 is as quiet, comfortable and stable as any model that has come before it, with its four wheel independent suspension making sure of that.

The Volvo XC60 T6 all wheel drive has been handed a suspension and steering upgrade for 2012. All of the XC60's can be fitted with Volvo's Dynamic package, designed to provide adaptability to the suspension system as well as speed sensitive steering and condition adaptive headlights.

As far as driver usability and passenger comfort, the Volvo XC60 is far from being found lacking. 75 inches in width, with a wheel base of 108 inches and sitting 67 inches high, the XC60 has all the cabin space that anyone could wish for, almost belying its description as being a "compact" crossover. Back seat passengers will never have it as good in many of its niche rivals as they will in the XC60, with head and leg room to spare for the tallest and widest of passengers, with comforts assured in a 40/20/40-split rear seat formation.

Cargo carrying is a cakewalk with the Volvo XC60 starting at just less than 31 cubic foot with everything in place and rising to a maximum of 67 cubic feet of maximum cargo carrying capacity with all seats folded. Loading and unloading the XC60 is also a piece of cake, thanks to its exceptionally wide opening tailgate. And if the Volvo XC60's maximum payload of around 1350 pounds is not enough, the Crossover can also tow a another 3300 pounds.
