The 2012 Bentley Mulsanne sedan is another ultra-luxury performer from the British car maker. It offers the same divine elegance that Bentley is known for, plus massive weight, awesome performance and a huge MSRP, starting at $290,000. The twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 engine delivers 505 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque, paired up with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. What more could anyone possible ask for?. Considering the weight of the vehicle, handling is surprisingly responsive. Corners are no problem as the steering is accurate and the car seems to drive a lot smaller than its size would suggest. As you would expect, the ride is unparalleled in smoothness, thanks to the computer-controlled adaptive air suspension. Drivers can also create custom settings for all of the electronically controlled handling features, in case the prepackaged settings are not to one's liking. For the fuel consumption-conscious consumer, the 2012 Bentley Mulsanne sedan comes with cylinder deactivation, which, in essence, runs only half the engine. Though Bentley tried to save weight with aluminum body panels, the Mulsanne still weighs in at nearly 5,700 pounds. It will not be wining any awards for being eco-friendly in the city at only 11 mpg, but on the highway it returns 18 mpg, which is acceptable for a vehicle in this class.

The second you slip into the handsome cabin, you know you are enveleoped by the ultimate in luxury as the interior focuses on making the occupants as comfortable as possible. The wind and road noise are minimal, and certainly nothing that would become distracting. The ride does suffer a bit when the suspension is set to sport mode, but it is still quite comfortable. Even the engine is barely heard until the throttle opens up, and then it growls just enough to let the driver know that it's ready for a little action.

The cockpit is a combination of classic styling and modern amenities. Instruments are seated in an a gorgeous dash made up of leather and wood, while the center console is home to a modern, yet disturbingly tasteful stereo and climate control. Of course, the seats are welcoming and comfortable enough that you won't be bothered when you hit unexpected traffic. The 2012 Bentley Mulsanne represents an excellent offering from the British manufacturer. Opulent comforts with tremendous power and responsive yet smooth suspension make the Mulsanne a great pick for those looking for the ultimate driving experience.
