The innovative aerodynamics of the 2012 BMW 1 Series Convertible allows drivers to cruise at highway speeds while not fighting the wind and drag created by the convertible aero footprint. Decreased drag and aero efficiency allow this convertible to conserve on fuel consumption, returning an impressive 18 mpg in the city and a whopping 28 mpg on the highway.

The 1 Series Convertible is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that delivers 230 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. It is capable of accelerating zero to 60 mph in only 5.9 seconds, which is admirable considering the thrifty fuel-economy. Of course, it does help that this engine is paired up with a six-speed manual transmission; something lacking in many competitive models. Sadly, car manufactures forget that many people still prefer a manual transmission.

Those wishing to customize the interior design of their 2012 1 Series Convertible can pick between an aluminum, alpine white, or cosmos black interior theme with chrome lined controls. The exterior offers 13 cool and contemporary color choices. Although the styling is on the sporty side, it has been voted as being a preferred choice for women, as some say it is just too cute for a man's car. Another downfall is the backseat, or lack of. Although there is seating for four, you have to be pretty tiny to crawl back there, but it is the perfect size for a purse or a few shopping bags.

In terms of the changes seen from the previous 2011 model, the majority of the updates can be seen with the general aesthetics of the vehicle, keeping the styling from becoming dated in between major revisions. For starters, there is a difference in the head and taillight designs with the 2012 model, neither of which are worth doing cartwheels over, but still pleasant to look at nevertheless. In the interior, differences are seen in the minute finishing details, buttons etc. Other than that, everything else pretty much has remained unchanged from previous models. In terms of efficiency, the 1 Series Convertible by BMW has a clever aluminum lightweight construction that ensures supreme driving safety and weight reduction. The lower curb weight can be attributed to its decrease in fuel consumption from the former 2011 model. The end result is more money in your wallet from increased fuel savings.

The BMW 1 Series Convertible is priced just right for the average buyer. It's not expensive enough to be placed in the luxury class, yet it is still a BMW for those that are simply after the name. It's nimble, rides smoothly, handles great and will definitely turn a few heads.
