There is only one engine choice on the Ford Transit Connect Van and that is the 2.0 liter 136 horsepower four cylinder. It is mated with a four speed automatic and front wheel drive. Speed was never promised as the Connect takes more than twelve and a half seconds to reach sixty during testing. However, the smaller engine guarantees a much better gas mileage than a more powerful and larger van. Coming in at 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, the Connect is far cheaper to own and operate than most conventional commercial vans.

The Ford Transit Connect Van comes with four different trims including the XL Van, XLT Van, XLT Wagon and XLT Premium Wagon. While the Van only contains front seats and an empty cargo area, the wagon trims offer a seat fit for workers. The XL Van is the base model and begins with subdued 15 inch wheels and a blind spot mirror. It also adds in such things as privacy glass in the rear, air conditioning, a driver seat that has adjustable height and lumbar and cloth upholstery. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes and the radio has two speakers. Adding in the Power Group will give owners a keyless entry system and power inside the cab.

All of that belongs to the Ford Transit Connect Van's XLT trim while more is added. Bumpers the color of the body, a defroster for the rear window, mirrors that are heated and map lights are some of the features offered. In addition to this, owners can take advantage of a power point in the cargo area and an upgraded stereo that features a CD player.

Moving up to the XLT Wagon, buyers will most noticeably add the three person bench seat in the rear. There are also foglamps and a four speaker stereo added. The XLT Premium adds in some special trim outside, pockets for storage on the rear door and glass windows that open.

There are more options on the Ford Transit Connect Van that can be added as desired. These include an in-dash computer system with navigation system and internet access, vehicle tracking system, Bluetooth and specialized trims. Those who buy in multiples will also add in a camera in the rear and parking sensors.

The Ford Transit Connect Van also takes safety seriously. Regardless of trim, the Connect comes with such features as antilock brakes all around, traction control, stability control and front side airbags.

Sometimes it pays to stand out from the crowd and this is the case with the Ford Transit Connect Van. While other work vans offer a bit more cargo space, it is not laid out as efficiently. Of course it also helps that the Connect is cheaper to operate which means less expense for the business. Not every commercial user will find the Connect to be beneficial, especially if they need a larger van. However, those that do will be happy with the performance as long as their expectations were not set too high.
