From cargo transport to special van conversions, full-size cargo vans have managed to address the needs of businesses and homeowners alike. Manufacturers took note of this need, and this is the reason why competitive cargo van models are introduced to satisfy these endless demands. A member of the segment is the GMC Savana Cargo Van. This is a full-size cargo van currently offered in the market in standard and extended-wheelbase versions. The first redesign on the Savana Cargo Van was made in 1996, and this was the time when the vehicle officially derived the name Savana. Another round of styling was introduced on the vehicle in 2003. Since then, the GMC Savana Cargo Van has received styling updates, all-wheel drive capabilities and a host of other improvements.

For most of its life, the GMC Savana Cargo Van received the same improvements and modifications with its sibling, the Chevrolet Express. After 2003, both these cargo vans updated its construction including the sheet metal that constructs the GMT 800 SUVs and light trucks. During this time, these two cargo vans were also fitted with the LS engines. After a year, the GMC Savana Cargo Van added the Stability Control. By 2006, the 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 was added as an option. The interiors of these two workhorses were also given a facelift in 2008, including the addition of side impact roof airbags.

The GMC Savana Cargo Van is also available as a passenger van that can accommodate 8-15 passengers. The model is now on its second generation with minimal changes since its first introduction in 1996. Buyers have a choice between the 3-door van and the 4-door van in terms of body styles.

This is a van that is highly customizable. When you are given your choice of six different engines, you are able to get a vehicle that delivers your precise needs. Those that simply need the basic engine will appreciate a 4.3-liter V-6 engine that delivers 195 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A nice engine in the middle of the spectrum is the 4.8-liter V-8 engine that offers 280 horsepower and 296 pound-feet of torque. This engine is available in the rear-wheel drive 2500 and 3500 models. If you are looking for the top of the line, the 6.6-liter turbo diesel V-8 engine grants you 260 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque. This is the engine you will appreciate if you do a lot of heavy towing. It should be noted that a properly equipped 2012 GMC Savana Cargo Van can tow anywhere from 4,490 to 9,700 pounds.
