The S80 is a middle sized executive level sedan from Volvo s, launched way back in 1998 a replacement for both the Volvo 960 and the S90 saloons. The Series One Volvo Saloon was significant as it was among the design trailblazers that the Swedish motor manufacturing giant released that was a direct departure from the conservative body designs of the eighties and nineties.

With the Series One S80 salon Volvo broke the mold as far as design was concerned, bestowing it a whole new look, with rounded corners, wedge shaped front and horizontal tail lights. Thanks to a very positive response from trade reviews and the public, Volvo continued to renew designs of their sedan range, with the S40 and S60 eventually getting the same external and internal refit.

The Volvo S80 Sedan received a fairly major face lift for 2011 with a modified exterior giving the vehicle a longer and wider footprint.

The Series Two Volvo S80 Sedan now comes with a choice of either petrol of diesel engines powered engines with the more power and have a lower fuel consumption.

The Volvo S80 standard front wheel drive petrol driven sedan is pulled by a 3.2 liter inline 6 cylinder engine producing 240 horsepower and 236 pounds per feet of torque, paired with a six speed automatic transmission. The other petrol engined S80 sedan is an all wheel drive 3.0 liter inline 6 cylinder turbo- charged that generates 300 horsepower and 325 pounds per feet of torque, again paired with a six speed automatic transmission.

There are also three diesel powered S80 sedans available, starting from a 1.6 liter engined version moving on to a 2.4 liter and rising to a 2.4 liter twin-turbo version.

The S80 provides a great deal In terms of comfort with more than enough head and leg room for driver and the front seat passenger, resplendent in their bucket seats. The three back seat passengers might struggle just a little with just 35 inches of leg room and 38.5 inches of head room up for grabs.

The Volvo S80 sedan offers around fifteen cubic feet of cargo space. While this capability is far from immense, when the need to carry longer items arises the Volvo S80 has a few tricks up its sleeve such as a trunk pass through niche and fold down back seats to give it some additional flexibility. On the up side, access to the trunk is more or less uninhibited.
