wipe project thumbnails when removed

a normal project with an inappropriate thumbnail (that was added by a hacker) recently appeared on trending. it's now taken down, but trending is currently frozen so the project is still up. i was almost traumatized by this image, and scared. scratch needs to have more auto-moderation in place if they want to be a completely safe kids site.

if the project was removed because of the thumbnail, the project thumbnail should be wiped from the servers and replaced with the default pfp (which is used for projects which seemingly have no thumbnail).

expected support ratio: 100% support, 0% semi-support, 0% no support

Agreed. I don't know what the thumbnail looks like, and I am glad that I don't, but it sounds like you got a heavy case of shock.

Default pfp? I thought that they just show the project stage as a thumbnail.

110% support. I didn't see the bad thumbnail but HOW IS THIS NOT A FEATURE ALREADY? young kids don't deserve to be traumatized by something that basically isn't even shared on the Scratch website

Edit: I saw it I almost fainted seeing that… that is one of the most innapropriate things i've ever saw.

Yep, there's an unshared project on Trending right now that has an inappropriate thumbnail.
This suggestion is, unfortunately, very relevant.

However, I think just wiping a project's thumbnail when unshared would be a bad solution, since the project owner could just set the thumbnail again.

Maybe the Scratch Team could make it so that nobody but the owner of the unshared project can see the thumbnail.
That way, the project owner couldn't just reset the thumbnail and continue causing trouble without having to somehow reshare the project.

Less of a suggestion, more of a bug. We do have the ability to wipe thumbnails, we're currently looking into why it wasn't working this time around.
