Here is a list of the 100 best position players of the century according to the NEWS Hall of Fame Gauge.

There are only 93 position players who have definite Hall of Fame numbers according to NEWS (see below).

All numbers include the 2007 season.

Bold=Hall of Famer

Italic=Active Player in 2007

CWS=Career Win Shares

CV=Core Value (sum of win shares for 10 best seasons)

NEWS=Career Value(Non-traditional Evaluative Win Shares)

=CV+.25(CWS – CV)

According to the NEWS HOF Gauge, not all of these players have clear HOF numbers.The NEWS benchmark for a position player to have definite HOF numbers is a NEWS score of 280.Eighty-four (84) of these players meet that criterion.That does NOT mean, for example, that Brooks Robinson should not be in the Hall of Fame.It simply means that his numbers are not as strong as those ranked above him.

Nine Other Players with HOF Numbers – Short and Great Career

There are nine other players who did not reach the 280 NEWS figure because of a shorter career.They also have HOF numbers.They each played fewer than 1800 games but still had a NEWS score of 255 or greater.And they are the ONLY PLAYERS to have done this.They have all been elected to the Hall of Fame.

As noted above, only ninety-three (93) 20 ^th century position players have Hall of Fame numbers according to the NEWS HOF Gauge.
