Our good friend Rod Nelson passed along word that the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity has named Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino the recipient of the 2008 Lou Gehrig Award, handed out annually since 1955. The award honors the Major League Baseball player who “best exemplifies the giving character of Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig,” who was a member of the Fraternity’s Columbia University chapter.
For more information about the Fraternity and the award, please visit their web site at www.LouGehrigAward.org . The site includes past winners, a news release about Victorino, and a moving video of Lou Gehrig’s “Luckiest Man” speech.
