The Niagara Power plated three runs in the eighth inning to fend off a pair of Webster Yankee comebacks for a 5-3 victory in New York Collegiate Baseball League action Thursday night.

Brian Goodwin (Methodist University) singled to center scoring Bobby Harper (Penn St. Brandywine) with the winning run. Niagara added insurance runs when Jake Gill (Mid America Nazarene) lofted a fly ball that was lost in the lights. When the ball fell, Goodwin and Alejandro Crisostomo (St. Augustine’s) crossed the dish with the fourth and fifth runs for the Power.

Webster battled back twice in the contest. After Niagara took a one-run lead in the top half of the first, the home nine responded in the bottom of the frame. Ricky Clark (Central Michigan) led with a single to right. Shawn Bailey (SUNY Cortland) dropped his first of two sacrifice bunts. Clark alertly kept running and advanced to third on the play. Steve Muoio (Georgia C&S) followed with an RBI ground out to the right side of the infield.

Clark went 2-3 on the night and reached base when he was hit by a pitch.

Niagara reclaimed the lead in the second. Stephen Camusso (Eastern Conn. St. U) led with a single. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Harper, Camusso and Angelo Buscemi (Central Conn. St. U) worked a double steal. Goodwin followed with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Yankees answered back in the sixth. Mike Walraven (Hofstra) worked a two-out walk. Ryan Chenoweth (Ball State) followed with a triple into left center scoring Walraven from first. Chenoweth’s drive one-hopped the fence 399 feet from home plate.

Webster drops to 15-13 on the campaign, Brockport visits Basket Road Field, Friday. Game time is set for 7pm.
