Touring The Bases With…Brent Mayne

Catcher Brent Mayne was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the first round (#13 overall) of the 1989 amateur draft and made his major league debut only a year later, rapping an RBI single off Twins pitcher Scott Erickson in his first major league at-bat. Mayne spent 15 seasons in the big leagues with the Royals, Mets, A’s, Giants, Rockies, Royals (again), Diamondbacks and Dodgers before hangin’ ’em up for good in 2004.
It wasn’t until his final season that he finally made the postseason, hitting .333 with a .500 OBA in the NLCS for the Dodgers. Mayne also earned a win on the mound on August 22, 2000 when he pitched the top of the 12th inning for the Colorado Rockies against the Atlanta Braves. He allowed a single and a walk and threw a wild pitch, but retired the Braves without surrendering a run, then copped the victory when the winning run scored in the bottom of the 12th.
