Looking for Patience and Power
February 23, 2011 by Bobby Aguilera · Leave a Comment
We were looking for active players who are patient, have dynamic batting skills, and are young enough to be relatively dependable. So, the criteria we chose were:
– Minimum 500 career Plate Appearances
– Minimum 13.5% career BB% – Minimum 125 career wRC+
– Younger than 35 years old today (Feb 23, 2011)
I just posted the list on BAseball Reality Tour , but wanted to share more numbers here at Seamheads.
Albert Pujols: 13.5 BB%, 169 wRC+, 31 years old
Adam Dunn: 16.3 BB%, 131 wRC+, 31 yoJason Heyward: 14.6 BB%, 134 wRC+, 21 yo
Jack Cust*: 17.3 BB%, 125 wRC+, 32 yo
What do you guys think? Are these “random” minimums making this exercise pointless? Should we have parameters that are saber-smarter? Oh yeah, and please let me know if we missed anyone.
*One more thing on Jack Cust, here are the Career BB% Leaders over the past 25 years, min 500 PA’s:
1. Barry Bonds: 20.3%
2. Jack Clark: 20.1%3. Ken Phelps: 18.1%
4. Jack Cust: 17.3%
Thanks to Fangraphs for the stats.
