IBWAA Selects No One In 2012 Hall Of Fame Vote

The alternative Baseball Hall of Fame vote came up a little different than the Official Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA). The official group for Cooperstown election came back with only one inductee—lifelong Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin. I would like to congratulate Mr. Larkin as well on a stellar career that I was able to sit back and enjoy from start to finish.

From Los Angeles, in its third annual version of the Hall of Fame vote, the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA) did not tally the required 75% threshold for a single player this year. Houston Astros’ Jeff Bagwell was closest, with 61%.

The same players that are available for Official Hall of Fame voting are also available for voting to IBWAA members. It is up to us to vote and decide whether or not we feel a player is worthy of induction. Based on our feelings as to the player’s ability, whether we feel that steroids players are or should be considered, ect.

The IBWAA selected Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven in 2011 and 2010, respectively.

The IBWAA was created July 4, 2009 by Howard Cole, Dodger blogger for The Orange County Register and editor of BaseballSavvy.com, to organize and promote the growing online baseball media, and to serve as an alternative to the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).
