Seamhead To Be Mayor Of Cooperstown!

March 23, 2012 by · 1 Comment

I’m proud and pleased to announce that my good buddy and fellow Seamhead, Jeff Katz, will be sworn in as mayor of Cooperstown, New York on April 3.  Incumbent Mayor Joe Booan chose not to seek a second term, which made Katz, a Democrat, a lock for the job. “It has been the honor of my life to be the mayor of Cooperstown,” Booan told the Oneonta, NY Daily Star . “To be elected by the residents of this community, a community that I grew up in, has been one of the most gratifying experiences as well as one of the most humbling experiences I’ve had.”

“Following his nomination, Katz told the crowd that after the party’s sweep of last year’s election, the board has come a long way and it was done it with civility and fact-based arguments,” reported The Daily Star .

Katz, a SABR member and author of The Kansas City A’s and the Wrong Half of the Yankees: How the Yankees Controlled Two of the Eight American League Franchises During the 1950s , has been a contributor to Seamheads.com since February 2010, and is the founder of an amazing blog called “Maybe Baby (or, You Know That It Would Be Untrue,” that contains 52 stories about rock and roll history. “Rock and roll history is filled with near-misses, accidental deaths and roads not taken,” Jeff wrote to describe his blog.  “ Maybe Baby, or You Know That It Would Be Untrue , is a collection of 52 stories about what would’ve happened had it, well, happened. Kris Kristofferson got it right – Maybe Baby is ‘partly truth, partly fiction.’ It’s a completely different take on rock and roll history.”

As if writing about baseball and rock and roll history weren’t enough, Jeff also has a blog dedicated to his son Nate, who has hyperlexia. Jeff writes on his blog “Mission of Complex: Our Journey Through Hyperlexia” that “Hyperlexia is on the autism spectrum and literally means ‘too many words.’ It is marked by a precocious ability to read, coupled with an inability to conduct real conversation and, dare I say it, ‘normal’ social interaction. Fortunately for us he was diagnosed at 3 1/2 years old, through the Center for Speech and Language Disorders in Elmhurst, IL. Through their great work in twice a week sessions (CSLD was a short drive from our Lincolnshire home in suburban Chicago), we’ve been able to draw out Nate’s vast intelligence.”

Last week, Jeff posted an image of Nate’s college commencement ceremony.  Nate will be graduating from The State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill on May 12.  We here at Seamheads.com hope Jeff has as much success as Mayor of Cooperstown as he and his wife have had raising their son.

Congratulations, Jeff!
