Ginger Beaumont To Be Honored On Monument

On Sunday July 19, 2015, a monument will be dedicated in honor of former baseball star, Ginger Beaumont. The event will begin at noon, at beautiful Beaumont Field, located on Milwaukee Ave. in Burlington, Wisconsin. The public is welcome to attend.

Ginger’s granddaughter Jean Cognato will be attending the event along with Beaumont’s great-granddaughter. Jean has many warm, happy memories, from her childhood spent with grandpa. She can tell stories about his life and career better than anyone.

This two-sided monument, with etching of Beaumont and text on both sides, begins with his birth in Rochester, WI in 1876 and continues up to his death in Burlington, WI in 1956. His .311 lifetime batting average, and NL hit leader four times, are just a couple of his many achievements listed.

Beaumont appropriately leads off the afternoon like he did as the first batter in modern day World Series history in 1903. Following the Beaumont dedication, three former players will be inducted into Burlington’s Baseball Hall of Fame. The day concludes with a baseball game between Burlington and visiting Oconomowoc, starting at 1:30 pm.

Ginger’s major league career concluded batting in the 1910 World Series, as a member of the Chicago Cubs, as their dynasty of four World Series in a five-year span ended. However, Ginger Beaumont’s legacy will live forever. Along with a field named after him, he is also a member of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, Racine County Sports Hall of Fame and on July 19th, I proudly include him in David Stalker’s Early Baseball through Deadball Era Memorial Series.
