2015 Dodgers – Mets Series a Unique No-Hitter Matchup

A friend recenty noted to me that the Mets are in the post-season this year, but had the embarrassment of having two no-hitters tossed against them this year. He wondered if there had ever been a similar team before? So I did a little research, and I think I’ve found that there have been only 14 teams (more than I would have guessed, actually) to have two no-hitters thrown against them in the same season.
Aside from the Mets this year, I think only three of these teams made the post-season: 1917 White Sox (who won the World Series), the 2010 Rays (who lost in their LDS)… and GET READY… this year’s Dodgers! And the Mets play the Dodgers starting tomorrow. How about that for an odd coincidence? It sure makes this a unique (of sorts) playoffs matchup.
So the next question is: with so many capable arms on their respective staffs — Kershaw, Greinke, DeGrom, Syndegaard, Harvey — might we see a no-hitter in this series? Still unlikely, to be sure, but a more intriguing possibility given the above.
So how did these key starters do against their opposing team this year? Mostly pretty well:
Kershaw vs. Mets in 2015:

- 9IP, 3H, 0ER
Greinke vs. Mets in 2015:
- 7IP, 4H, 0ER
- 7IP, 4H, 2ER
DeGrom vs. Dodgers in 2015:
- 7.2IP, 2H, 0ER
Harvey vs. Dodgers in 2015:
- 5IP, 7H, 3ER
- 7IP, 6H, 2ER
Syndegaard vs. Dodgers in 2015:
- 6IP, 2H, 1ER
I for one will be watching all of the games in this series with special interest, waiting to see when each team manages to get their first hits.
