Our good friend, award-winning artist, and author Gary Cieradkowski has generously allowed us to feature some of his artwork on the site and we couldn’t be happier. Gary launched his fantastic web site, The Infinite Baseball Card Set , in early 2010 and it boasts more than 230 hand-drawn cards.
His book, The League of Outsider Baseball: An Illustrated History of Baseball’s Forgotten Heroes , was released to rave reviews on May 5, 2015 and has received four or five stars on Amazon from 94% of reviewers. And he’s gotten excellent reviews from those in the business as well.
“Gary Cieradkowski is to me the most interesting artist working in baseball today. His bold graphic style recalls America’s poster kings of yore–Edward Penfield, J.C. Leyendecker, Fred G. Cooper–and his love of the game breathes new life into heroes long gone.” (John Thorn, Official Historian for Major League Baseball).
“ The League of Outsider Baseball can be read as a reclamation project, although it is also more than that. The illustrations, rendered in vivid throwback style, recall the beautiful old tobacco cards that were manufactured at the turn of the century.’ Based not on photographs but rather on research and imagination, they offer a new lens through which to look at, or think about, these players, a way of bringing them to life.” (David L. Ulin, LA Times).
I’m hoping to eventually add full size cards as our new wallpaper. Stay tuned! And thanks again, Gary!
