Owen Smaulding, former Monarch, starting for Chicago versus Chet Brewer, who is about a year from blossoming into an ace.

In a crazy game, the Monachs lead 5-0 after five innings. Chicago scores 2 runs in the top of the 6th, and Willie Foster, celebrating his 24th birthday, relieves Smaudling during the bottom of the 6th to keep it close. Chicago adds another run in the top of the 7th, to cut the lead to 5-3. Kansas City then scores 2 in the bottom of the 7th, opening up a 7-3 lead. Chicago responds with 4 runs in the top of the 8th against Brewer, to tie the score at 7. Andy Cooper relieves Brewer in the 9th and gets out of trouble to keep the score even. The game is halted for a brief shower, and Kansas City is scoreless in the bottom of the 9th.

In the top of the 11th, Chicago scores two against Cooper, helped by some poor defense, and goes into the bottom of the inning leading 9-7, with Willie Foster still on the mound. Pitcher Andy Cooper leads off with a single, and is replaced on the bases by pitcher Army Cooper. Eddie Dwight singles, then Dink Mothell walks, loading the bases with no one out. Newt Allen hits a hard grounder past 3B Stanford Jackson into the left field corner. Cooper scores. Dwight scores. Dink Mothell keeps running and scores all the way from first for the winning run. Walk-off double for Allen. 10-9 victory in 11 innings for Kansas City.

NOTES: In a losing cause, Chicago SS Pythias Russ goes 4 for 6, with a home run and 3 RBI. Newt Allen is the big star, going 5-5, with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 walk, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 stolen base, and the walk-off hit. Birthday boy Willie Foster suffers the loss.
