Ballparks Database Update: More No-Hitters!

We at Seamheads.com are proud to announce another new update of the Seamheads.com MLB Ballparks Database!

The database includes data through the 2020 season; three-year and one-year park factor LH/RH splits dating back to 1905; and every no-hitter from 1875-present. The following is what you’ll find on the updated no-hitters pages:

• No-hitters thrown in 2021 by everybody but me. Joe Musgrove, Carlos Rodon, John Means, Wade Miley, Spencer Turnbull, Corey Kluber, Zach Davies and the No-Hit Wonders (Ryan Tepera on drums, Andrew Chafin on lead guitar, and Craig Kimbrel on bass), Tyler Gilbert, and the duo of Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader.
• Updated “Did You Know?” sections with additional information, including feats previously unachieved in MLB history.
• NEW! Starting pitchers’ ages and rankings among 315 no-hit starters, including Joe Borden’s 1875 unofficial National Association no-no.

What you won’t find (yet):

• Negro Leagues no-hitters. Although MLB is finally recognizing the Negro Leagues as a Major League, we’re waiting for them to make a final decision on which seasons they’re willing to consider official. Our goal is to add Negro League parks to the database, and eventually, all NeL no-hitters will be added to the site.

ON DECK!

• More info to be added to “Did You Know?” sections, including quotes from pitchers, players, opponents, umpires, managers, and reporters.
• More stolen bases against, caught stealing, intentional walks, runners on error, pitch counts, and other blanks that still need to be filled in.
• No-hitters thrown in 2022.
• Negro Leagues ballparks and no-hitters.
• Additional information on the “Park Events” pages, including first and last umpires, managers, cycles, shutouts, and much more at several active and inactive MLB ballparks.

Did You Know?

Orioles southpaw John Means threw a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on May 5, 2021, but might have had a perfect game had he not thrown a wild pitch on a third strike.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Means struck out Sam Haggerty but Haggerty reached first on the wild heave. Haggerty was thrown out trying to steal second and Means went on to hold the Mariners hitless.

Means is the only pitcher in major league history to lose a perfect game on a third-strike wild pitch and to throw a non-perfect no-hitter with no walks, no hit batters, and no errors.
