Comments: Grant, Tanya Tucker's version of "Delta Dawn" peaked at #72 on Billboard's singles chart, on July 1, 1972. It was an even bigger hit on the Country charts, going to #13. The song was originally recorded by it's co-writer, Country "outlaw" singer Alexander Harvey, in the early '70s. Bette Midler saw Tracy Nelson, who was a back-up singer on Harvey's track, perform the song in a New York club and recorded it for her "Divine Miss M" album. Country music producer Billy Sherrill saw Midler perform the song on the Johnny Carson Show and thought it would be a perfect song for Tanya Tucker, then 13. After Tucker's song went to #13 on the Country charts, pop producer Tom Catalano recorded a backing track and pitched it to Barbra Streisand, who didn't like the song and declined to record it. The song's publisher then contacted Jeff Wald, the husband and manager of Helen Reddy. Reddy's rendition entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #86 on 6/23/73, and was the #1 record in America on 9/15/73.

Comments: Came to this site to settle an argument over who released Delta Dawn first, Helen Reddy or Tanya Tucker. Still not sure after reading the article. It says "I" ( I assume Helen) cut the song for my first Capitol album. Then it says Bette Midler heard Traci Nelson (back up singer for that session) do the song and started singing the song. Billy Sherril heard Bette Midler do the tune and had Tanya Tucker to do the tune. Then it says Tom Catalano wanted Barbara Streisand to do the song. She wouldn't, so Helen Reddy ended up doing it. It sounds like Helen released the song first but when you read throung the article it sounds like she released it after. This is going in circles and I don't understand anymore. If someone knows let me know.

Comments: Just after my divorce in '89, a friend turned me on to Joni Mitchell. I couldn't believe I had never heard of her before. I was very "sheltered" in my marriage though. But once I heard Joni I couldn't get enough of her, I bought every album and played them 24 hours a day. I tried to play some of her songs on my guitar, but they were too difficult for me. I was really bummrd. Joni got me through a very difficult time in my life. When I got divorced I lived in San Diego. My younger Sister flew one way to get me and take mt home. We drove all the way to michigan and we played Joni exclusively the entire 3 day trip! I still revere Joni, and play her. A lot of her songs have special meanings for me and bring back certain memories. Ever since I began playing her, I have wanted to send her "fan mail" to let her know what her music means to me, but I just figured it would fall by the wayside with the other fan mail.... I became infatuated with the music and voice of Wynonna Judd. Noy nearly as much as JOni! But then I read somewhere that Wynonna loves Joni too! That was too cool. No wonder I liked Wynona! Comments: I just surfed on in and of course when I saw the article about The Captain and Tennille, I had to voice my opinion about them. Captain and Tennille may not have become an evolution like Elton John, but most people do not realize that even though The Captain and Tennille didn't continue to evolve for ever and ever like, maybe Cher, They continued to become famous throughout the years and have steadily performed since 1975 in Nevada and surrouding areas. They gained worldwide recognition and went on to come show biz professionals. Toni Tennille landed her own talk show in 1980 and sang songs from that era that sounded better than the original artists. Toni Tennille also exercised her many talents on stage, hence the acclaimed Victor Victoria that orignally was done my Julie Andrews. Toni Tennille has so many more talents than anyone ever realizes. To wit, she is a Singer, Songwriter, Talk show host, Keyboard player, Actress, and the list goes on and on. Not many people realize she has as many talents as she does. People not only respect Toni in the professional sense, she has the most vivacious personality anyone could ever ask for. Toni is also not conceited, she is very humble and has much respect for her fellow counterparts. Can you tell that I am a Captain and Tennille fan?. What can I say, I have an eye for good entertainment. I have had the honour of meeting back stage many times after her stage performances, and all I can say is that she is a genuine southern belle with a heart of gold. It is no wonder she "made it" in the entertainment industry. She is entertainment personified.!

Comments: I love this website! You can miss a lot of things in this world, but I really miss the seventies. Not because the clothes were great or the hairstyles were all that hot, but because it was a simpler, less complicated time. B4 the days of fax machines,microwaves,cable t.v. and cell phones. It also seems to me that it was a happier time and people weren't as violent and crazy as they are now. People were nicer and more laid back (perhaps that had to do with the fact that nobody was saying "no" to weed at the time). Now that I think of it, the one good thing about the clothes back then was that they were extremely tight and you could really check out a guy in a pair of painted on jeans!
