Judging by appearances, this German album is incredibly dumb, but the pseudo-arty cover has no effect on the music, and the pretentious lyrics are hardly decipherable. Lead singer Roye Albrighton is thankfully able to keep a straight face while singing about a bluebird who blesses a blind boy with wisdom and sight -- although his voice does become strident at times.

Happily, the 35-minute opus sustains musical if not lyrical interest, owing to the dynamics, the frequently changing tempo and the solo spotlight. And the band never succumbs to the temptation of breaking into deafening ostentation, a common vice in longer rock pieces.

- Paul Gambaccini, Rolling Stone, 12/5/74.
