Barn Door Shower Doors - What?!
by Damon Cundiff on 03/11/15

Yes, that's what they're calling them (unofficially) - Barn Door Style Shower Doors. They are the latest and greatest in shower doors, and you guessed it, we got 'em! Why are they so hot right now? People love the frameless glass look, but not everyone has room in their bathroom for a hinged door to swing into the room. To solve that problem, frameless sliding and bi-fold glass shower doors are now available. The most popular of the styles is the "barn door style", as the roller hardware is similar to a barn door. There are other new styles as well, check out the images below. For all new styles available, please view our Shower Door Page

. How much do these shower doors run? Estimates are free, just call 928-527-3333.

What the heck does "beveled" really mean?

by Damon Cundiff on 02/17/15

There seems to be much confusion about beveled glass. Most people will call us, order a glass table top, and say, "Just bevel the edge". We have come to realize, that most people don't really know what that means. So, let's clear things up. Beveled glass table edges became popular in the 80's, and that term has lingered well into this millennium. With a beveled edge, the indent edge can be ordered to specifications, usually 2 inch is the maximum. (See images below). A flat polished edge is simply a polished glass edge, yes, that simple. A pencil polish is a half round polished edge. You guessed it, like a pencil. Beveled is usually the most expensive, followed by pencil polishes, and the flat is the least expensive. Hope this clears things up.

Do you want the job done fast? OR do you want it done RIGHT with a LIFETIME warranty?

by Damon Cundiff on 06/04/14

This is the question people are posed with when getting a window repaired. Perhaps this has happened to you. You clean your window, inside, then out, but it still looks hazy. You realize the filmy haze lies between the panes of your dual pane window. You call a glass company and they tell you they can take it apart, clean it and put it back together for you today. Sounds great, right? What they aren't telling you is that without performing the work in a hermetic enviornment (which means super, super clean! free of dust, lint, and finger prints), and being properly sealed, it is likely that you will see such items in your glass and the seal will probably fail again.

At THE ROCK Glass & Mirror Company, we believe in doing things right the first time, even if it takes a little longer. We order all dual pane glass units from a factory in Phoenix that performs the work in the proper environment to ensure your glass is 100% clean. Then they seal the glass unit, not once, but twice. Because of this, is does take about a week, but it also allows us to warranty the seal on your glass unit for LIFE. We prefer to do things "the right way" even if it takes a little longer. As our company motto states "We don't cut corners, or take short cuts, and good enough isn't even close." To watch a video of dual pane units being made in the factory, go to our Window Repair page.  We hope this helps you understand the dual pane window repair process better, and you can feel confident about how you choose to repair your window.

3 Reasons to Replace Windows in SPRING

by Damon Cundiff on 04/25/14

1) When the weather is warm, you're not thinking about how drafty and cold your windows are in winter, so most people forget about replacing their windows until it gets cold. We do replace windows in winter, but, yes, cold air will come in while we are working.

Replacing windows in warmer weather is certainly more comfortable.

2) Many older windows don't open very well anymore. Enjoy easy open windows all Summer.

3) Older windows often have old screens with rips and holes. New windows come with new screens to keep flies, bees, and mosquitos out all Summer.

Don't get caught in the cold this year, call now for a free estimate (928) 527-3333

To repair or replace? That is the question.

by Damon Cundiff on 02/06/14

Your dual pane window seems to have moisture between the panes of glass. Do you repair or replace your window? There has always been much confusion in this area for most people. Since  I've always been a fan of a good analogy to help explain things, here we go. When your car break downs, no matter what make or model, or how old, your car can be repaired.  Replacing the battery, the brakes, a belt, or your windshield, is “repairing” your car. Even t hough you “replaced” a part, ultimately you “repaired” your car.

Windows are no different. A window is made up of many different “parts” - crank handles, rollers, sashes, frame, spacers, and of course, glass. All of which, are parts that can be replaced, whereby repairing the window.

Back to the dual pane unit that has moisture between the panes - What to do? repair or replace your window? If you answered, repair, you are correct. Even though we will "replace" the dual pane glass unit or "part" we are technically repairing your window.

So, in what circumstances would you want to REPLACE your window? If, as we stated earlier, your window can always be repaired. Back to the car analogy...have you ever had an older car that needed so many repairs, you thought, "Maybe I should just get a new car instead of repairing my old car?" Same thing with windows. And just like getting a nice, fancy, comfortable, and, of course stylish, new car, window are the same way. New windows are more energy efficient, they open and close easily, and of course, they look nice and new. (Check out our window replacement page for more about how to select new windows, and to see our before/after photo gallery. Visit our window repair page for more about repairing your window.)

To repair or replace? That is the question. And only you can answer that. In most case, a repair is the best approach, but if you have older windows, you may want to consider a window replacement. If you want a little advice or a free estimate, just give us a call. Oh, and by the way, when you repair your dual pane window glass with us, it comes with a lifetime warranty against seal failure!

Lowest Price Guarantee What does that mean?

by Damon Cundiff on 02/06/14

As the owner of a small business, for years I struggled with “price matching.” If you offer a low price guarantee, do people translate your product or service as inferior, or of poor quality, or even worse...cheap?

Since 1998 , I have always made sure we have been very competitively priced, but we have never made an official statement of a low price guarantee for fear of giving the wrong impression of our products and service. Now that it is common place for people to read our 5 star reviews prior to a purchase, and the fact that we recently have increased our dual pane warranty from 10 years to a LIFETIME warranty (try to find that anywhere else!), we now feel more confident in providing customers with an official LOWEST PRICE GUARANTEE. We hope this will give people the added assurance of knowing for sure they have been quoted the lowest price that is always backed with top notch products, warranties, and outstanding service.

So, to answer the question we started with, "Lowest price guaranteed - What does that really mean?" It means, if you show us a lower price, we'll beat it by 10%. AND we will not compromise on the quality of products or the service we provide. Period.

That goes for everything we do. Whether you have broken glass, and are in need of a window repair, or are looking for a complete window replacement .If it’s a frameless shower door , or frameless tub enclosure to replace that old shower curtain. From commercial plate glass, to replacement glass for your patio table, a mirror for your bathroom, or glass for a picture frame - we guarantee the absolute lowest price on everything we sell, big or small.

Let's talk Shower Doors: Framed, Frameless, and Semi Frameless

by Damon Cundiff on 01/16/14

I have found this topic causes a bit of confusion. Sometimes when people hear the words Frameless Shower Door they assume there will be no frame - at all. The difference between a Framed Shower Door, and what we refer to as a Semi-Frameless shower door is - the door itself.

A framed shower enclosure will come with the door itself completely framed in aluminum. A Semi-Frameless shower enclosure will look almost identical to a framed shower enclosure, with all the same components. The only difference is the door will not be completely framed in aluminum. If you choose a semi-frameless shower enclosure of any style - meaning slider, or hinged, you will still have a bottom track that runs full width, wall jambs, and a full width header to stabilize the entire enclosure. A framed shower enclosure will be made up of either 5/32” or 3/16” thick glass. A semi-frameless shower enclosure will be made up of 1/4” thick glass.

If you want a truly “Frameless” shower enclosure, it must be made out of either 3/8” or 1/2” thick glass. When you upgrade to thicker glass, you are able to achieve an actual “frameless” shower enclosure. If you choose to go with a hinged door, or if your opening is a little bigger and it requires you to have a hinged door and a fixed panel, though you will still need a couple of hinges and a handle, the rest of the enclosure will be truly frameless. There are more options available with a 3/8” slider, and we are able to eliminate a lot of the frame, but you still must have a header for the doors to roll on.

Below are some recent shower doors we have installed. We also have a variety of shower door options on display in our showroom. Just stop by and we'll help you design your new shower enclosure.
