Faculty Emeritus Emerita

Retiring faculty chosen as faculty emeriti are those who have made a significant contribution to UHCL. Significant contribution means that the faculty member has a sustained and distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, or service ( UHCL Faculty Handbook Policy 3.10 ).

Benefits

Emeritus/Emerita enjoy benefits normally reserved for active faculty. These include invitations to campus and university functions, library, computing and parking privileges and even office space.

Nomination Process

Nominations are made by faculty within the candidate's college and are usually turned in by the end of February to the Chair of the Council of Professors. A committee selected from within the Council sends their recommendations to the Dean, the Provost and the President for review. The Provost approves the Dean's recommendations and forwards them to the President by the last week in March. In turn, the President submits the final recommendations to the Board of Regents. Emeritus/emerita appointments are normally approved by the Board in the spring of each year.
