Kent State famously advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament during the 2001-02 season.

A win over Buffalo gave UA a 16-0 home record and its first undefeated season at Rhodes Arena since 2015-16, when the Zips went 15-0. UA has gone unbeaten at Rhodes Arena in two other seasons: 18-0 in 1986-87 and 13-0 in 2005-06.

Akron will face Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference Tournament's first round. Here's the MAC Tournament bracket
Because Akron clinched the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament, UA will play No. 8 seed Bowling Green (14-17, 8-10) in the opening round at 11 a.m. March 13 at Rocket Arena in downtown Cleveland.
On Jan. 3, Bowling Green lost 71-68 at home in its only meeting this season with Akron.
Kent State (21-10, 11-7) earned the No. 3 seed and will open the MAC tourney with the March 13 nightcap against No. 6 Western Michigan (12-19, 9-9).
Because Akron and Kent State are on opposite sides of the bracket, the Wagon Wheel rivals wouldn't be able to clash in the MAC Tournament until the championship.
The winner of Akron and Bowling Green will advance to play the winner of No. 4 Toledo (17-14, 10-8) and No. 5 Ohio (16-15, 10-8). The winner of Kent State versus Western Michigan will advance to face the winner of No. 2 Miami (23-8, 14-4) and No. 7 Eastern Michigan (16-15, 9-9).
