- Alabama football OC Ryan Grubb calls Tide WR a 'missed tackle forced machine'
Alabama football 's rotation at wide receiver has gotten a boost from true freshman Lotzeir Brooks , and Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is impressed with one of Brooks' skills in particular: his ability to elude tacklers after the catch.
"You want to give touches to the right guys, and Lotzeir is a guy who is a missed tackle-forced machine," Grubb said Monday. "That's one of the things we look at every week — who are the guys getting touches, and who are the guys breaking tackles? Because when it's not perfect ... you need a guy who is going to somehow make the play for you."
Brooks contributed a pair of receptions for 40 yards in the Crimson Tide's 24-21 road win at Georgia on Saturday. At just 5-foot-9 and 191 pounds, he's the smallest receiver on the team among those who see regular playing time. But despite his size and lack of experience, he's giving the UA coaching staff every reason to keep him in the rotation.
"Lotty, since the day I've seen him running around out here (in practice), he's definitely a guy with the knack to (make tacklers miss)," Grubb added. "He's got good ball security, he plays through contact, he does not expect to be tackled. He's more powerful than people anticipate, and he's a really sudden guy."
Brooks has eight receptions for 128 yards on the season, and has been one of six wide receivers in the playing rotation this season, along with Ryan Williams , Germie Bernard , Isaiah Horton , Rico Scott and Cole Adams. Alabama plays host to Vanderbilt on Saturday, Oct. 4 (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC/ESPN).
