The Denver Broncos met with SMU's Brashard Smithat the NFL combine last month, the running back confirmed during his media availability in Indianapolis .
Smith (5-10, 194 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds and a 10-yard split in 1.58 seconds at the combine. A former wide receiver, Smith is perhaps one of the best receiving backs in this year's class.
"I feel like that role is the biggest role now," Smith said of receiving RBs, via DenverSports.com's Andrew Mason . "I feel like nowadays in the NFL, you have to have a back that can catch and run out of the backfield. I feel like that's just the new wave of running backs now."
After three years at Miami , Smith transferred to SMU ahead of his senior season. In his first year as a running back, Smith rushed 235 times for 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 39 receptions for 327 yards and four scores as a receiver out of the backfield.
NFL mock drafts now have Smith projected as a fifth-round prospect . The Broncos hold seven draft picks this year, but none in the fifth round. Denver does have a trio of picks in the sixth round. The 2025 NFL draft will be held in Wisconsin from April 24-26.
