Broncos Wire 's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie tight end Caleb Lohner , No. 84.
Before the Broncos :Lohner (6-8, 250 pounds) had an interesting route to football. Beginning his collegiate career, he was a four-star basketball recruit who initially committed to BYU , where he played from 2020-21, before transferring to Baylor , where he played from 2022-23. Lohner then transferred to the University of Utah for the 2024 season.
In 2024, Lohner played both basketball and football for the Utes . Lohner only caught four passes in his one season: the catch? Those four catches all went for touchdowns.
Broncos tenure:Despite Lohner's extremely limited football career, he was surprisingly selected in the seventh round (241st overall) of the 2025 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos . He is set to make his pro debut during preseason next month.
Chances to make the 53-man roster:Toss-up. As a late-round pick, Lohner has no guarantees of making the active roster in his rookie season. There are plenty of examples of basketball players converting to NFL tight ends , though, so he'll get a chance to impress behind veterans Adam Trautman and Evan Engram this summer. If Lohner is unable to make the 53-man roster this summer, he should be a top candidate for the practice squad.
