Broncos Wire 's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at tenth-year kicker Wil Lutz , No. 3.
Before the Broncos : Lutz (5-11, 184 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia State with the Baltimore Ravens in 2016. After failing to make Baltimore's 53-man roster, Lutz was claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints , who were coached by Sean Payton at the time. Lutz went on to spend seven years in New Orleans (missing one season due to injury), converting 165 field goals with a long of 60 yards. His 781 points with the Saints rank second in franchise history, only trailing Pro Football Hall of Famer Morten Andersen (1,318 points).
Broncos tenure: After becoming the coach in Denver in 2023, Payton traded a seventh-round draft pick to New Orleans in exchange for Lutz (the Saints moved forward with Blake Grupe ). Lutz went 30-of-34 on field goal attempts in his first season with the Broncos and 31-of-34 last fall, tying Jason Elam's franchise record for the most field goals in a single season. Through two years (34 games) in Denver, Lutz is 89.7% on field goal attempts with a long of 55 yards.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. The Broncos do not have any competition for Lutz on the roster, a sign that the 30-year-old kicker is locked in to retain the job in 2025.
