The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a deal with pending free agent safety Talanoa Hufanga , according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis . The deal will not become official until the NFL's new league year begins on Wednesday afternoon.
Hufanga (6-0, 200 pounds) originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of USC with the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft. After playing as a rotational defensive back in his rookie season, Hufanga had a breakout season in 2022.
Hufanga earned first-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl nod in 2022 with 97 tackles, nine pass breakups, four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), two sacks and two forced fumbles in 17 games. He was then hindered by injuries in 2023 and 2024.
The 25-year-old safety tore his ACL two years ago and battled a wrist injury last fall. He has missed 17 games over the last two seasons. In seven games last fall, he recorded 38 tackles. Hufanga will now team up with Brandon Jones in Denver's secondary, giving the team a promising safety duo -- health permitting.
