Buccaneers cut experienced WR in favor of explosive rookie Tez Johnson originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers knew they wanted to keep speedy seventh-round rookie WR Tez Johnson on the roster after the former Oregon star popped in the preseason.
That meant a tough cut decision elsewhere on the wide receiver depth chart.
The Bucs are waiving wideout Trey Palmer , according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times .
"Why didn't general manager Jason Licht trade the third-year receiver? He tried," Stroud writes. "He had discussions every day with the other 31 clubs but no deals were forthcoming as teams are trying to get down to the 53-man roster limit by 4 p.m. Tuesday."

The Buccaneers drafted Palmer in the sixth round out of Nebraska in 2023.
Across two seasons, he caught 51 passes for 557 yards and four TDs.
Palmer was also the primary punt returner in his time with Tampa Bay .
This summer, he had injuries which didn't help him stake his claim to a roster spot.

Stroud speculates that Palmer could be claimed off waivers. Two former Buccaneers offensive coordinators are now head coaches that could be interested: Carolina's Dave Canales and Jacksonville 's Liam Coen.
The Bucs have a lot of strong wideouts, so Palmer may not be missed.
But if things work out in his favor, he can still put together a solid NFL career in a new home.
