A transfer tug-of-war is igniting in the English Championship for the signature of Senegalese winger Cheikh Sabaly. Middlesbrough, currently sitting second in the table, had thrown their hat in the ring early on, but now face a fresh challenge from Southampton, who have entered the fray with determination to land the talented wide man.
According to media reports, Southampton—currently 21st in the standings—aren't just watching from the sidelines. The club's management has already entered advanced talks with the 26-year-old, presenting a clear vision for his role in their sporting project. The Saints are reportedly ready to put forward a lucrative two-year contract offer, complete with all necessary assurances to tempt him to St. Mary's.
This latest twist intensifies the chase for Sabaly, whom Middlesbrough also regard as a vital addition for their bold Premier League promotion bid next season. The FC Metz attacker is no stranger to English interest, having recently caught the eye of top-flight sides such as Brighton , Crystal Palace , and Brentford .
With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, Sabaly is now a highly coveted target. Despite his contract status, he remains a regular starter for his Ligue 1 club, having started eight matches, logged over 600 minutes, and provided one assist this season—contributions that support his current €4 million market valuation.
