The Guardians ' No. 1-ranked prospect might be sidelined for a bit, though the team is still gathering context about his recent injury.
Travis Bazzana , the No. 1 overall selection in last year's MLB draft for which the Guardians won the lottery and the rights to select him with the top pick, came up hobbling after a double in his most recent Double-A game. Bazzana appeared to reach for his right midsection/core area, and he was then taken out of the game.
In 33 games for the RubberDucks this season, Bazzana has slashed .252/.362/.433 with four home runs, five doubles, three triples, 17 RBIs and eight stolen bases (only one caught stealing).
Travis Bazzana injury update
Despite being taken with the No. 1 overall pick less than a year ago, Bazzana has a chance to fast-track his way to the major league level, although an injury causing a stint on the IL would create a delay. When the Guardians dealt Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays , it had several benefits, with one of them being the long-term clearing of the runway for Bazzana at second base .
For the moment, the Guardians are gathering information on how long Bazzana might be sidelined.
