- DB’s Steelers Film Room: Jabrill Peppers Is a Weapon
In the midst of a thrilling week one victory against the New York Jets , the Pittsburgh Steelers unfortunately lost their starting strong safety in the process. The good news is that the timetable for DeShon Elliott's return isn't long-term, but that didn't stop the team from being aggressive in finding help on the back end. Luckily for them, eight-year vet Jabrill Peppers , who had multiple suitors , jumped at the opportunity to play in the black and gold. This move might not seem splashy on the surface, but it's a sneaky addition with legitimate upside assuming he can stay healthy.
SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down Peppers' film from his time in New England , detailing how he went from an underwhelming first-round selection to one of the more unique chess pieces at the safety position. Peppers brings versatility, physicality, and communication skills, all three of which have been priorities for the organization after getting bounced on Wild Card weekend last season. Now, the Steelers have even more proven depth in the secondary that should allow them to navigate through the rigors of a lengthy season. Don't be surprised when their newest addition carves out a role for himself on a defense that is looking to turn things around by any means necessary.
