Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens guarded by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward
With the Pittsburgh Steelers entering free agency with over $60M in cap space, it's safe to assume that a shopping spree is on the horizon. One of the positions that will be of particular interest for them is the cornerback spot, with the team currently lacking options on the boundary and inside. Joey Porter Jr. is an ascending young player but the organization needs to find him a running mate and fortunately for them, there are plenty of options to choose from. The slot corner position has been something of a wasteland in the steel city for quite some time, as well.
SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down the best cornerback fits, broken down by tier. Whether the team is looking for a splashy signing, solid starter or simply a dart throw, this group of defensive backs has a little bit of everything. This is a Steelers unit that struggled down the stretch and in order to back to the elite group that they aspire to be, necessary upgrades are definitely in order on the back end. This video details scouting notes on each player, potential contract estimations and fit within Teryl Austin's scheme.
