- FAMU football vs Mississippi Valley State game location in limbo, could be moved from Atlanta
The highly anticipated Georgia Football Classic game in Atlanta between Florida A&M and Mississippi Valley State may be played elsewhere.
Scheduled to be played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m., a source close to the FAMU football team confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat that the game between the Rattlers and the Delta Devils will not be played at the NFL venue that houses the Atlanta Falcons .
They added that the Week 6 Southwestern Athletic Conference game will either be moved to another site in Atlanta or to Mississippi Valley's Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena.
The likely move and scheduling snafu was first reported by HBCU Gameday.
It is Mississippi Valley's home game, so its athletic department is responsible for relocating the football game.
"We expect a resolution very shortly," the source told the Tallahassee Democrat.
The imminent relocation comes three months after FAMU athletic director Angela Suggs announced that Mississippi Valley State decided to move the game to Atlanta.
The Georgia Football Classic football game is listed on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium website , and tickets have begun to be sold on Ticketmaster , following initial reports about a lack of details surrounding the game .
FAMU alumni groups also began planning events in Atlanta revolving around the game, as it follows a day after the HBCU's Oct. 3 Founders Day.
Regardless of location, the FAMU football team enters Saturday looking to turn around its 1-3 overall record and 0-1 mark in the SWAC under second-year head coach James Colzie III . The Rattlers lost their SWAC opener 42-14 at home versus Alabama State on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee last Saturday, Sept. 27.
Mississippi Valley State is 0-4 and 0-1 in the SWAC under first-year head coach Terrell Buckley, most recently falling short to Texas Southern 23-20 last Saturday.
