When the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf , it was arguably the biggest swing for the fences moves in the Mike Tomlin era. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound playmaker has been one of the games most dangerous explosive play generators since he stepped foot in the league. When a team forks up a second-round draft selection in order to acquire such a talent and then subsequently turns around to give him an extension that makes him one of the highest paid players at his position: there are lofty expectations that come with that sort of investment. After pursuing impact pass catchers for well over a year, is Metcalf the impact player that can take this offense to the next level?
SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down the talented speedsters game in great detail: What makes him such a special player, his fit within Arthur Smith's system, debunking popular (and quite frankly lazy) narratives surrounding his skill set and what the next steps are in his development. Metcalf brings jaw-dropping levels of explosiveness to the Steel City and checks a lot of boxes for what NFL teams look for in X-receivers that are also the primary vessels of their teams passing game. Regardless of who ends up throwing him the football next season, he offers plenty of flash for fans to get amped up about.
