Former Tennessee quarterback Kaidon Salter was named Colorado's starting quarterback in 2025.
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders named the former Vol as the team's starting signal-caller for its season opener against Georgia Tech on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. EDT at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado.
Salter was at Tennessee in 2021, but was dismissed by head coach Josh Heupel in June 2021 after being arrested for simple possession of marijuana and driving without a license.
He was also involved in another on-campus incident during his time with the Vols. Following his dismissal from the Tennessee program, he transferred to Liberty. Salter played for the Flames from 2021-24 and was named Conference USA Most Valuable Player in 2023.
He was also named MVP of the 2023 Conference USA championship game.
In four years at Liberty, Salter appeared in 30 games, including 24 starts. He was 20-4 as a starting quarterback. Salter completed 362-of-600 passing attempts for 5,283 yards an 59 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,697 yards and 16 touchdowns on 298 attempts.
