CLEVELAND — The Guardians look to keep their Wild Card hopes alive in a key series against the Seattle Mariners , who are currently holding the final spot in the American League playoff picture.
The Guardians rallied Aug. 29 , erasing a 4-0 deficit in the sixth inning to walk in walk-off fashion and pulling off a major reversal of fortune in the Wild Card race. Still, though, they entered Aug. 30 4 games back of the Mariners.

Gabriel Arias is not in the starting lineup after being hit on the wrist by a pitch Aug. 29.

Guardians beat the Mariners, Cade Smith locks down save
Cade Smith earned his first career four-out save, and the Guardians have beaten the Mariners, 4-3, to take the series. They're also now 3 games back of the final Wild Card spot.
Julio Rodriguez crushes 2-run home run off Hunter Gaddis
In the bottom of the seventh, Steven Kwan singled back up the middle to score Nolan Jones and put the Guardians up 4-1.

That run was needed, as in the top of the eighth, Julio Rodriguez absolutely launched a two-run home run to left field off of Hunter Gaddis to make it a 4-3 Guardians lead.
The Guardians brought in Cade Smith in the eighth after that blast.
Jorge Polanco home run cuts into Guardians lead
The Mariners are on the board against Guardians starter Gavin Williams . In the seventh, Jorge Polanco launched a solo home run to right field to make it a 3-1 Cleveland lead. Steven Kwan is good, but he couldn't catch that one. Williams has given up four hits and struck out eight thus far.

Kyle Manzardo hits 2-run home run off Logan Gilbert
Jose Ramirez drew a two-out walk in the sixth and was followed by Kyle Manzardo, who drilled a 109.2 mph home run to right field. It was Manzardo's hardest-hit ball of the season, and it gives the Guardians a 3-0 lead.

And Cleveland is well on the way to an absolutely crucial series win at this point in the season.

Steven Kwan robs Josh Naylor of extra bases: Watch the video
Steven Kwan just took away a double and probably an RBI from his former teammate, Josh Naylor.
With the Guardians holding onto a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth, and with Julio Rodriguez on first base, Naylor smoked a ball to the left-center gap. Kwan, on a full sprint, caught it with a full-out dive as he ranged to his left and into the gap. It likely took away an RBI double from Naylor that would have tied it.
Kwan is almost assuredly headed for his fourth consecutive Gold Glove .

Bo Naylor RBI single gives Guardians the lead
The Guardians were held without a hit until the fourth inning, when Jose Ramirez singled off of Logan Gilbert. He eventually moved to third base, and Bo Naylor followed with a single of his own to score Ramirez and put the Guardians up 1-0.
Gavin Williams is through four scoreless innings with six strikeouts and, most notably for him, zero walks.

Logan Gilbert and Gavin Williams have both looked strong thus far, and the Guardians and Mariners will head to the third inning in a scoreless tie.

Williams has struck out three and allowed one hit. For Gilbert, it's been six up, six down.
