Guardians beat the Marlins
Nic Enright struggled in the ninth, eventually loading the bases, which forced Stephen Vogt to bring in Cade Smith even in with a five-run lead. Smith locked down the final out, and Cleveland won the game, 9-4, and the series, 2-1. Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Guardians put together 4-run 7th inning
The Guardians have taken command of this one with a four-run seventh inning that has given them a 9-4 lead heading to the top of the eighth inning.
With Jose Ramirez on third and Gabriel Arias on first, C.J. Kayfus grounded a ball to shortstop to Otto Lopez , who fired to the plate, but Ramirez beat the throw and slide safely into home. David Fry followed with an RBI single.
After Brayan Rocchio failed to get a bunt down, he instead drove in a run with an RBI single to right field. Austin Hedges — with "Hedgie! Hedgie!" chants echoing around Progressive Field — drove in the final run of the inning via a sacrifice fly.
Jose Ramirez passes Kenny Lofton for third place in franchise history; Guardians take the lead in 5th
The Guardians have re-taken the lead.
Steven Kwan opened the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk and Jose Ramirez singled to put two runners on with one out. Ramirez then stole second base, his 35th steal of the season.
Kyle Manzardo tied it 4-4 with an RBI single to left field. Gabriel Arias then lined a ball to right field that was caught, but Ramirez easily scored from third on a tag to give the Guardians a 5-4 lead. That was his 976th run scored, which gives him third place on the franchise list, ahead of Kenny Lofton.
Marlins re-take the lead in the 4th over Guardians
With two on, Heriberto Hernandez hit a ball to second base that Brayan Rocchio couldn't handle, and the Marlins took a 4-3 lead. The play was scored as a hit, but might have been able to go either way.
Guardians respond with 3-run inning of their own
Steven Kwan, Angel Martinez and Jose Ramirez opened the first inning with singles to make it 3-1. A wild pitch later in the inning brought home a second run, making it 3-2.
Gabriel Arias then grounded a ball that resulted in an out, but it was enough to score Ramirez and tie it 3-3, effectively erasing Miami's first inning against Bibee.
Guardians, Marlins score: Miami puts up 3-run 1st inning
The Marlins, for the second consecutive night, put up a big first inning against the Guardians.
Xavier Edwards singled, Kyle Stowers walked and Agustin Ramirez doubled to bring home a run. With one out, Otto Lopez grounded a ball to the left side. The throw came home and beat Stowers to the plate by several paces. But Austin Hedges couldn't hold onto the ball, which allowed not one but two runs to score on the play, making it 3-0 Marlins.
It's a costly error for a normally sure-handed defensive catcher.
