Former Oregon Ducks defensive tackle Derrick Harmon dominated the collegiate field last season to the tune of 45 total tackles and five sacks. His stellar play earned him first-round status in the NFL Draft, where he was selected with the 21st overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers .
Harmon looked promising during training camp this summer but unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury during the second quarter of Pittsburgh's final preseason game. It was a tough scene as he had to be carted off the field, which got people speculating that the injury might be season-ending.
The Steelers got some encouraging news on Saturday however, when NFL Network's Ian Rapaport announced Harmon's injury diagnosis and recovery timeline. Last year's Second-Team All-Big Ten selection will not be back in the fold immediately, but Rapaport reported that barring any setbacks, Pittsburgh will likely get him back relatively early in the season.
The Steelers' success has always been predicated on defensive dominance, so it's fortunate that they'll get their star rookie back this season.
