Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited for speeding after being clocked at 101 mph in a 60 mph zone near Cleveland, Ohio, early Tuesday morning.
An officer from the Strongsville Police Department stopped Sanders, who was driving a black Dodge TRX truck while traveling northbound on Interstate 71, shortly after midnight, according to Fox 8 in Cleveland.

The outlet has covered several stories in the area regarding drivers exceeding 100 mph in their travels.
Judy Converse, PIO for the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, told them, "There is no excuse for extreme speeds."
Pro Football Talk notes that on the scale of offenses, excessive speeding might not be the worst thing in the world for Sanders to be caught doing, but it "won't do anything to challenge perceptions that Sanders lacks the maturity NFL teams look for in their franchise quarterback."
Fans React to Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur Sanders reportedly has two options in dealing with his speeding infraction – pay a fine for what is classified as a fourth-degree misdemeanor, or contest the ticket.

He has a scheduled court appearance in early July.
Fans, as they tend to do, were having a field day with the news that Sanders had been caught speeding at such an excessive rate. Several memes involving the Fast & Furious movie franchise were posted on X.
Then there was this …
Many fans, however, defended the Browns' rookie and suggested the incident is much ado about nothing. That it would likely have gone unreported for most players.
Others noted that NBA legend LeBron James was cited for driving at similar speeds, on the same highway, at about the same age.
Perhaps a positive harbinger of things to come in Cleveland once again?

The Maturity Issue
Getting back to the aforementioned maturity comments, the Shedeur Sanders speeding incident is an unwelcome development for a fifth-round rookie who thought he should have been a first-round rookie. He's got something to prove. This wasn't it.
He's already the most highly scrutinized NFL draft pick in recent history. Why? In part because of his behavior before the draft, which likely facilitated his downfall.
Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter ripped Sanders for being "so concerned about what his outfit was, his necklace was over a hundred grand" instead of trying to impress teams with his ability.

Now, it's not just a necklace. He's trying to look flashy in his car.
Sanders has reportedly been impressing his coaches as he fights for a starting role on a roster featuring five quarterbacks. Now, instead of focusing on his play on the field, he'll have to answer questions about an incident outside the lines.
