The person throwing out the first pitch at today's Cleveland Guardians home opener is a familiar name to Ohio State football fans.
Defensive end Jack Sawyer , the team captain, will throw out the first pitch at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland.
Over four seasons at Ohio State, Sawyer had 144 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 23 sacks and an interception.
Sawyer, who is from Columbus, came to Ohio State as a five-star recruit out of Pickerington High School.
At Pickerington Sawyer played multiple sports, including baseball.

"Getting back on the rubber will be like riding a bike – hopefully," Sawyer said to the Columbus Dispatch . "I'll probably hit about 80 miles per hour. Throw it right down the pipe."
The catcher for Sawyer's ceremonial pitch will be Steve Colavito, the son of former Cleveland slugger Rocky Colavito, who died last December . Steve Colavito was a minor-league player in Cleveland's organization.
Sawyer is expected to be a Day 2 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, though he didn't make the cut in Mel Kiper's latest mock draft at ESPN.
Perhaps Sawyer's most notable play came in the Buckeyes ' College Football Playoff Cotton Bowl semifinal win over Texas earlier this year. In the waning minutes of the fourth quarter, Sawyer came around the outside and strip-sacked Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and returned it for 83 yards.
The play sealed the game for the Buckeyes. Now Sawyer will hope to deliver a clean strike at Progressive Field.
What time is the Guardians game today?
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30s, and some precipitation in some form is possible.
