The James Colzie III Prospect Camp did what it intended.
On Tuesday, June 24, the Florida A&M head football coach hosted his second annual on-campus camp, which attracted hundreds of high school players to Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
Prospects from high schools all over Florida attended Tuesday's camp at FAMU. Even California, Texas, and Wisconsin-based players were at Colzie's camp.
"It's about the university ― the brand. The FAMU brand is national," a proud Colzie told the Tallahassee Democrat.
"We're getting it all over the country."
Colzie has emphasized having a healthy balance of high school players and NCAA Transfer Portal entrants joining his 2025 FAMU football team this offseason.
In May, Colzie and his coaching staff spent the month on recruiting trips to scout high school players in Florida and surrounding states.
Hosting a prospect camp helps Colzie's goal of having a fair contingency of players fresh out of high school.
"The way the recruiting landscape is going right now, you can get your team good via the portal," Colzie said. "But I think having a foundation with some high school kids is important. We started that this year. We've got to be great high school recruiters and with the portal."
Florida High wide receiver Keenen Jeune left FAMU football's James Colzie III Prospect Camp with a scholarship offer to join the Rattlers.
Jeune couldn't compete in the prospect camp due to a hamstring injury, but the FAMU staff determined they'd seen enough from the 6-foot-1 rising senior.
Jeune had 24 receptions for 356 yards for the 8-4 Seminoles last season.
"I like the camp, the atmosphere, and the energy around campus," Jeune said before getting offered. "There were some dogs out here, and I like the coaching staff. Everything about it is just high energy here."
James Colzie III to continue week of FAMU football camps
Colzie will host the second day of his prospect camp on Friday, June 27.
It will conclude a week of FAMU football camps , including a Big Man Camp on Monday and a Youth Camp on Tuesday.
"It gives us a chance to look at them and watch them move," Colzie said.
"Everybody gives us Hudl film, which is great. But I've never seen a Hudl that's bad. For us, we get a chance to put them through some things and see how they can handle some of this heat as well."
Colzie expects a good turnout on day two of his second annual prospect camp at Bragg.
Friday's start time is 11 a.m., and entry costs $60 .
"You got to pinch yourself a little bit when you see guys wearing your name on a t-shirt," Colzie said. "But I wouldn't be able to do it if I wasn't the head football coach here at Florida A&M , the finest university in the country. So, I'm excited and happy to do it. It is something that puts our program at another level every year."
