The Minnesota Twins have not gotten off to a strong start this season. They have dealt with plenty of injuries , but have also struggled to remain consistent in the win column. After a victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night Rocco Baldelli's squad finally reached a double-digit win total.
Of course, as has been the case for the Twins this season, the victory came with a setback. Luke Keaschall was recently called up to the big leagues after an insane rise. He didn't finish the game on Friday though, and he won't be around for a while.
Luke Keaschall suffers significant injury for MN Twins
Although Luke Keaschall has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery , he has spent time at second base and designated hitter. On Friday night he was in the lineup as the third hitter and operating as the designated hitter. He got hit by a pitch in the 3rd inning and didn't return. Now we know why.

Mickey Gasper took over for Keaschall in the middle innings. Keaschall's hit by pitch didn't look to be serious, but that couldn't be less true as he now deals with a fracture.
Through seven games Keaschall has set a major league record for successful stolen base attempts. He is batting .368/.538/.526 with three doubles and a 5/2 K/BB.
It's beyond disheartening for Minnesota to lose Keaschall. He has been a bright spot for a lineup that has struggled to produce consistent offensive results. Although he wasn't a constant starter at second base, his defensive ability is substantially higher than that of Edouard Julien .

A non-displaced forearm fracture typically heals while casted within 6-to-8 weeks . That means Keaschall will be out of the Twins lineup for at least two months as he'll also need an opportunity to ramp back up with a rehab assignment.
Twins need infield help with Keaschall going to the injured list
Minnesota hasn't placed Luke Keaschall on the injured list, but they will do so on Saturday. They don't currently have another infield option on the 40-man roster, and Willi Castro is on the injured list as well.
The Twins have an open 40-man roster spot after outrighting Diego Cartaya on Friday . It seemed like that move could have been made to add outfielder Carson McCusker. They may now need to pivot and include another infielder.
Royce Lewis DOUBLE 🗣️

Royce Lewis joined the St. Paul Saints for a rehab assignment on Friday night. He played six innings in the field and went 0-for-3 with a double . It was his first game action since May 16. It's unlikely that Minnesota immediately recalls him on Saturday, but he could be an option by Monday in Cleveland .
If the Twins opt for a veteran infielder prior to Lewis, Ryan Fitzgerald may be an option. The 30-year-old has never played in the big leagues but has 668 games of minor league action under his belt. He is batting .313 with a .913 OPS through 20 games with the Saints this season.
