The 2025 MLB trade deadline is set for Thursday, July 31, at 6 p.m. ET.
A slew of deals already went down ahead of deadline day, including the mid-June blockbuster sending All-Star slugger Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks , lefty pitcher Kyle Harrison and a pair of prospects including outfielder James Tibbs III (the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 draft).
With the expanded MLB playoffs including more Wild Card teams getting in, even more organizations are expected to be buyers at the deadline relative to years past.
MLB Trade Deadline: How the trade deadline experience can be dizzying for players
Anyone within shouting distance of a Wild Card spot should look to add as a show of good faith to their respective fan bases, but general managers must look to the team's future, too.
Here's the latest on deals going down on deadline day (and a look at trades that have already been announced):
Twins , Rays swap big name arms at MLB trade deadline
As the 2025 MLB trade deadline came to a close, the Minnesota Twins continued to sell by shipping reliever Griffin Jax to the Tampa Bay Rays , but they added young starter Taj Bradley to the fold in the process.
Jax is a shutdown late-inning reliever, while Bradley at just 24 years old has room to grow and harness his talent in Minnesota.
Bradley had his name thrown around in trade rumors leading up to the deadline, and Tampa ultimately decided to move him. The Rays finished with an interesting mix of buy and sell, also shipping stolen base afficionado Jose Caballero to the New York Yankees .
New York Yankees continue to bolster bullpen, add San Francisco Giants ' reliever Camilo Doval at trade deadline
The New York Yankees are trading for San Francisco Giants reliever Camilo Doval after already adding David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates and Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies .
New York didn't get a big-name starting pitcher nor a big bat to add to the lineup, but their bullpen is now arguably the best in baseball with plenty of depth.
Boston Red Sox trade for starting pitcher Dustin May from Los Angeles Dodgers
After having a mostly quiet deadline after trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in June, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly making a high-risk, high-reward trade by adding Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Dustin May.
The deal was reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan .
May has dealt with a slew of injuries throughout his career. He has nasty stuff but has had a difficult time harnessing it by controlling his pitches with consistency. Perhaps Andrew Bailey and Co. in Boston can make the necessary adjustments to unlock May's full potential.
Chicago Cubs add former All-Star utilityman Willi Castro from Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins have done everything short of slap a "Clearance" sign on the outside of Target Field, shipping yet another talented player away for prospects on deadline day.
This time, it's former All-Star Willi Castro heading to the Cubs, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post .
Castro has played all three outfield positions, second base, third base and shortstop this year for the Twins, bringing the added value of versatility along with his steady bat (10 homers and 27 RBI this season).
Texas Rangers trade for starting pitcher Merrill Kelly from Arizona Diamondbacks
After adding stud reliever Danny Coulombe from Minnesota, the Texas Rangers made an even bigger splash by acquiring one of the top starting pitching arms on the market.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan , the Rangers are adding veteran righty Merrill Kelly from the Arizona Diamondbacks, who've been in sell mode since shipping first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners .
Kelly is 9-6 this season with a 3.22 ERA across 22 starts. He'll be a free agent this offseason, which incentivized Arizona's decision to sell. He now joins a starting rotation that features Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi .
Texas Rangers trade for lefty reliever Danny Coulombe from Minnesota Twins
The Texas Rangers are making a substantial upgrade to their bullpen, acquiring veteran southpaw Danny Coulombe from the Minnesota Twins, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan .
Though Coulombe has had injury troubles throughout his career, he's truly nasty when healthy.
In 40 games for the Twins this season, the 35-year-old has notched a miniscule 1.16 ERA. That's been good for a career-best 1.6 WAR for Coulombe, and we haven't even reached August yet.
San Diego Padres take a big swing, trade for All-Star 1B Ryan O'Hearn and outfielder Ramon Laureano from Baltimore Orioles
A.J. Preller is not messing around at the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
After adding catcher Freddy Fermin from the Royals earlier in the day, the San Diego Padres will reportedly add both All-Star first baseman Ryan O'Hearn and outfielder Ramon Laureano from the Baltimore Orioles, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
O'Hearn was among the biggest bats available on the trade block, while Laureano has had a resurgent under-the-radar season compiling 2.9 WAR to this point in the year already. Laureano's 145 OPS+ is by far the best of his career.
O'Hearn has hit 13 homers and knocked in 43 runs during his lone All-Star campaign, numbers that could get a jolt playing in a more hitter-friendly ballpark.
Carlos Correa gets Astros reunion, reportedly traded back to Houston from Minnesota Twins; Astros also add lefty bat
The Minnesota Twins' 2025 selloff continued with a blockbuster, as MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports Minnesota is shipping veteran shortstop Carlos Correa back to where his career began.
Correa won Rookie of the Year honors with the Astros back in 2015 as a 20-year-old. He won a World Series championship with Houston in 2017.
The now 30-year-old is having a down year compared to his usual standards, posting a pedestrian 92 OPS+ with just seven home runs. Still, Correa is just one season removed from making his third career All-Star appearance and has familiarity with the Astros organization.
MLB Network Insider Mark Feinsand reports Correa will move to third base in Houston with Jeremy Pena , a great defender, firmly entrenched at shortstop.
Feinsand and McTaggart also report that Houston is adding left-handed hitting outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Miami Marlins in exchange for starting pitcher Ryan Gusto and more .
New York Yankees bullpen further bolstered with trade for Jake Bird from Colorado Rockies
The Yankees continue to add arms to their bullpen with a trade for Colorado Rockies reliever Jake Bird.
Earlier in the day New York acquired Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar.
This season, Bird has a 4.73 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings pitched.
New York Mets acquiring former All-Star, Silver Slugger Cedric Mullins from Baltimore Orioles
The New York Mets are adding to an outfield that already features the $765 million man Juan Soto.
According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo , the Mets are sending prospects Raimon Gomez, Anthony Nunez and Chandler Marsh to Baltimore to land Cedric Mullins.
Mullins has a .229/.305/.433 slash line to accompany 15 homers and 49 RBI this season.
Kansas City Royals trade catcher Freddy Fermin to San Diego Padres
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, A.J. Preller and the San Diego Padres are upgrading the catcher position by acquiring Freddy Fermin from the Kansas City Royals .
Pitching prospect Ryan Bergert and right-handed starting pitcher Stephen Kolek are reportedly headed back to KC in return.
Fermin has been steady behind the dish for the Royals this season, compiling 1.2 WAR. Most of his value comes with his glove, though, as Fermin's OPS+ of 81 is the worst mark of his career (excluding 2022 when he played just three games).
New York Yankees trade for 2-time All-Star David Bednar from Pittsburgh Pirates
The New York Yankees, after a relatively quiet start to this year's trade deadline, have made a splash by adding one of the better relief pitchers available.
David Bednar, a two-time All-Star with the Pittsburgh Pirates, is headed to the Bronx, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Bednar is 2-5 with a 2.37 ERA this year. He's struck out 51 batters in just 38 innings pitched.
Both closer Devin Williams and reliever Mark Leiter Jr. have been shaky for New York this season, so adding a proven veteran makes a lot of sense for the Yankees who continue to slip in the AL East standings as the Toronto Blue Jays — who added Guardians starter Shane Bieber earlier today — surge.
Chicago White Sox might opt to keep outfielder Luis Robert Jr. through the trade deadline
According to a report from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand , it seems as though the Chicago White Sox could opt to keep outfielder Luis Robert Jr. through this year's trade deadline.
Robert has had an underwhelming season in 2025, though he has turned things around of late. Over his past 15 games, Robert sports a .353/.441/.549 slash line with three homers and 11 RBI in that span.
Despite the jolt of production, though, it seems the White Sox aren't thrilled with the offers they're getting for the former All-Star, Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger.
Feinsand notes the White Sox "would likely pick up his $20M option for 2026" and hope for more of the recent production to up Robert's value down the line.
Los Angeles Dodgers bringing back reliever Brock Stewart in trade with Minnesota Twins
The Los Angeles Dodgers, who were expected to add bullpen arms at this year's deadline, have done so by reportedly bringing back a familiar face.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that LA is trading for Brock Stewart from the Minnesota Twins, who continue to sell after shipping outfielder Harrison Bader to the Phillies .
Stewart began his career with the Dodgers and pitched more than three seasons in Los Angeles from 2016 through 2019. He's a more polished talent now at age 33, having a solid year with Minnesota. He sports a 2.38 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched out of the bullpen this season.
Philadelphia Phillies trade for Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader
The Philadelphia Phillies are shoring up their outfield by adding veteran right-hander Harrison Bader from the Minnesota Twins, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports .
The deal is pending medical review.
Bader, a former Gold Glove award winner who's played for five different teams will now join his sixth. The 31-year-old has been great for Minnesota this year, compiling 2.8 WAR with 12 homers and 38 RBI.
His career high for home runs in a season was 16 back in 2021 with the St. Louis Cardinals .
Phillies beat reporter for MLB.com Todd Zolecki had the return for Minnesota, which includes Philly's No. 12 prospect:
'Increasingly likely' Cleveland Guardians opt to trade All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan
It's now "increasingly likely" that the Guardians' trade deadline selloff will include All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi .
Reports earlier in the day suggested that the Guardians and Padres were in talks to send Kwan to the west coast, but Cleveland wanted San Diego's top prospect in shortstop Leodalis De Vries.
De Vries was subsequently packaged in a deal that landed the Padres All-Star closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears from the Athletics .
Kwan is a Gold Glove outfielder with significant contact skills. He could help numerous contenders make a playoff push in the second half of the season, but the Guardians asking price seems understandably high.
Detroit Tigers keep adding bullpen arms in trade to acquire Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan
The Detroit Tigers continue to stack arms in their bullpen at the deadline by acquiring Washington Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal .
Detroit already added reliever Paul Sewald from the Guardians earlier in the day, and now they get even more depth behind their starting pitchers.
Finnegan's numbers haven't been as impressive this year with the Nats, though. He sports a 4.38 ERA, but his 3.60 FIP suggests he's had some bad luck and is better than the ERA indicates. His career ERA spanning six major league seasons sits at 3.66 at the time of the trade.
No word yet on what the Nationals will get in return.
Report: The Guardians wanted Padres top prospect Leodalis De Vries and more for Steven Kwan
Before the Padres traded top prospect Leodalis De Vries to the Athletics, the Guardians reportedly told them they wanted him and more for All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan.
San Diego Padres inquiring about Guardians' Steven Kwan
The Guardians — and for that matter, the Padres — may not be done making deals.
According to Buster Olney of ESPN , the Padres are inquiring about Cleveland All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan.
The Padres are keen on adding an outfielder before the MLB trade deadline and are also reaching out to the Boston Red Sox about Jarren Duran .
Kwan is batting .286 with 115 hits, nine home runs, 38 RBI, 53 runs, and 11 stolen bases this season.
Padres and Athletics pull off blockbuster involving closer Mason Miller, top prospect Leodalis De Vries
In what should be one of the bigger moves on MLB trade deadline day, the San Diego Padres are acquiring closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears from the Athletics. In return, the Athletics are receiving shortstop Leodalis De Vries, one of the top prospects in baseball, and three pitchers.
Miller, 26, has posted a 1.01 WHIP while striking out 59 in 38 1/3 innings to go with 20 saves. Sears is 7-9 this season with a 4.95 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 111 innings pitched.
Earlier this year ESPN rated De Vries as the No. 3 prospect in baseball.
If you're a Cleveland Guardians fan, you have to wonder if they could have gotten a similar return for closer Emmanuel Clase , who is being investigated by MLB for gambling .
Luis Robert trade rumors: Could the White Sox outfielder be headed to the Mets?
Rumors continue to circulate on the status of Chicago White Sox outfield Luis Robert Jr.
According to New York Post baseball reporter Jon Heyman, the New York Mets are talking about the center fielder.
The White Sox, mired in a 40-69 season at the trade deadline, could land a decent return for the 27-year-old Robert.
Robert is struggling this season with a .213 batting average with 11 home runs, 43 RBI and 40 runs. He does have 27 stolen bases. He was an All-Star in 2023 when he hit 38 home runs and had 80 RBI.
Cleveland Guardians trade relief pitcher Paul Sewald to Detroit Tigers
After signing him in January , the Guardians are trading relief pitcher Paul Sewald. The team signed Sewald to a one-year deal that includes a mutual option for the 2026 season.
Sewald has only pitched in 18 games for the Guardians this season due to injury. Over 15.1 innings he has a 4.70 ERA with 18 strikeouts. He had four holds and two blown saves along with a 1.17 WHIP.
In return, the Guardians will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Cleveland Guardians trade Shane Bieber to Toronto Blue Jays for Khal Stephen
Shane Bieber's career with the Cleveland Guardians is over.
The team is trading the former Cy Young Award winner to the Toronto Blue Jays for pitcher Khal Stephen.
Bieber has been rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He's pitched in just two games for Cleveland since the start of the 2024 season.
According to MLB.com, Stephen is the No. 5 prospect for the Blue Jays. The right-handed starting pitcher is currently in Double A. ESPN's Jeff Passan described Stephen as "one of the biggest pop-up prospects of 2025."
Seattle Mariners reunite with All-Star 3B Eugenio Suarez in trade with Arizona Diamondbacks
The writing was already on the wall that the Arizona Diamondbacks were in sell mode when they shipped upcoming free-agent first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners for a pair of pitching prospects. They maintained that proverbial dance partner to pull off another blockbuster trade.
According to multiple reports including ESPN's Jeff Passan , All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez will take his talents back to the Pacific Northwest to reunite with his old team in the Mariners and old teammate in Naylor.
The addition provides even more thump in a lineup that features MVP candidate Cal Raleigh — who has 41 homers heading into deadline day.
Suarez, with 36 homers of his own for Arizona before the trade, provides serious protection for Raleigh in the M's batting order.
Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports that the return for Arizona will be first baseman Tyler Locklear and a pair of pitching prospects.
