The Minnesota Twins got some great news just as first pitch was coming against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. After Joe Ryan was snubbed as an All-Star Game selection, it was announced he would replace the Houston Astros Hunter Brown .
Byron Buxton was the first All-Star Game selection for Minnesota this year. He's set to appear in the festivities for the second time. This time around he's also ticketed to represent the Twins in the Home Run Derby . It's even more special with the event taking place in his home state of Georgia.
Unfortunately there is a level of worry when it comes to his health after Cubs starter Cade Horton hit him with a pitch during Wednesday's contest.

Buxton initially stayed in the game. He swiped his 17th base (and remains a perfect 17-for-17 this season) before coming around to score. Then he was lifted as Brooks Lee came on to take over defensively.
Of course the Twins had a level of concern regarding Buxton's hand. Taking a pitch off such a fragile part of the body, even with protection, isn't something anyone should want to sign up for. Thankfully imaging showed no break and Buxton's official diagnosis is just a contusion.

How much pain, and what the swelling look like for Buxton tomorrow should determine a lot. The Minnesota Twins have one more game against the Chicago Cubs before hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend. It would be a blast to see Buxton square off on Friday against Paul Skenes . Minnesota needs to stack wins if they are going to avoid being sellers at the deadline as well.

That said, Buxton probably has his eyes on the All-Star Break and would love to compete in the game he was chosen for, as well as the Home Run Derby he opted into. This will be a situation to monitor over the weekend.
