- NFL free agency: Which teams have spent most, least amount of money in 2025?
New year, new team.
The NFL rang in the new league year at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12 , signaling the start of another season is inching closer. That's not the only thing it meant though.
A new year means new spending, as 32 teams whipped out their credit cards and checkbooks, eager to improve their rosters for 2025.

Some like to be a little more frivolous than others, with the idea that spending will equate to wins down the road. Others prefer to cling to their precious cap space , waiting for the right player to come along at the right time.
However, there is no one way to build a football team and spending in free agency is just another example of that. Here's a look at where the money is coming from this year.

It covers the contracts for just seven players and notably doesn't include Sam Darnold , who departed for the Seattle Seahawks . Instead, the Vikings are taking full advantage of their excess cap space, attempting to build a contender around J.J. McCarthy , who is still on a rookie contract.
Which NFL team spent the least money in free agency 2025?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the most frugal team in free agency, spending just over $22.9 million, per OverTheCap . They have been more active in the trade market, adding DK Metcalf from Seattle and extending him on a deal that will cost $30 million per year on average.
This figure accounts for just four players but will certainly grow whenever Pittsburgh finds their quarterback for the 2025 season.
