PITTSBURGH —The NFL will investigate the incident between Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase that ended with Ramsey being ejected from Sunday's game.
Ramsey was ejected for punching Chase with 13:28 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Steelers held a narrow lead.
The two players came together after a third down play, when the Steelers stopped the Bengals short, setting up a fourth and one. Chase grasped Ramsey's face mask, dragging him into a big scrum. The players earned offsetting personal foul penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct on that play.
Cincinnati then lined up to go for it on fourth down, but instead just tried to draw Pittsburgh offsides. The Bengals called a timeout, but that didn't stop Ramsey and Chase from coming together again.

Ramsey clearly threw a punch, connecting with right hand to Chase's facemask. Ramsey had a cut across that hand in the locker room after the game. He was assessed a second personal foul and ejected.
Ramsey claimed that Chase spit on him to incite the incident, a claim that is supported by video, despite Chase denying it. In a pool report provided to the PFWA, referee Bill Vinovich said that none of the officiating crew saw Chase spit on Ramsey.
The NFL could fine or suspend Chase for spitting on Ramsey. A precedent was set earlier this season with when Jalen Carter of the Philadelphia Eagles was suspended one game for spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott . Carter was ejected from that game, just six seconds in, and the NFL allowed that to serve in stead of a one-game suspension.
Chase could face a suspension as the now 3-7 Bengals host the New England Patriots next Sunday. Ramsey could also face supplemental discipline for throwing the punch.
