The Carolina Panthers reeled in a pair of players off the waiver wire on Wednesday.
As announced this afternoon, the Panthers have been awarded the rights to cornerback Damarri Mathis and wide receiver Dalevon Campbell.
Mathis, who was cut by the Denver Broncos on Monday, was a fourth-round pick from the 2022 NFL draft. The 26-year-old Lakeland, Fla. native has gone on to start in 18 of his 43 career games, amassing 103 combined tackles and nine passes defensed for the Broncos.
Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero headed Denver's defense during Mathis' rookie campaign in 2022.
Campbell, a cut casualty of the Los Angeles Chargers , split his six-year collegiate career between Illinois (2019 to 2021), Nevada (2022 to 2023) and South Carolina (2024). The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder totaled 87 receptions for 1,483 yards and three touchdowns over 60 games.
He appeared in all four preseason games for the Chargers this summer, where he reeled in eight of his 18 targets for 147 yards (18.4 yards per catch).
Carolina currently has one open spot on their active roster following this morning's trade of wide receiver Adam Thielen . They would have to clear up another to accommodate both Mathis and Campbell.
